I am finally catching my breath after the incredible weekend we had last week! R.'s niece got married at the most amazing place in South Carolina. It was at Palmetto Bluff which is on the May River. We stayed in Hilton Head at this hotel. We flew in to Savannah mid day on Thursday and headed to Sea Pines. We walked around Harbor Town, checked out the shops, and climbed to the top of the lighthouse.
After freshening up we headed to Palmetto Bluff for a Low Country Cookout with family and friends. Sean got to meet 2 of his cousins he had never met before and to see many cousins he hadn't seen in years; some since he was a bitty baby! It was a wonderful evening--we got to spend some very relaxed, quality time with everyone including the bride and groom.
Friday morning R. was supposed to golf with the groomsmen but he got tied up on phone calls. We hung out at Palmetto Bluff with everyone for a while before we got ready for the Rehearsal Dinner. The dinner was held at an outdoor pavillion right on the edge of the May River. It was beautiful there! Sean loved the 5 or 6 story tree house best! Oysers on the half shell, smoked oysters, crab legs, and shrimp was served as the appetizer followed by a good ole' Southern dinner. Yum!
Saturday was THE BIG DAY! The wedding was in the sweetest little chapel. Katie looked so beautiful and the ceremony was touching. Cocktails were served on the lawn before the reception dinner started. Before the dinner was served, Katie's Dad (our BIL) gave a speech. Right when he was getting to the emotional part Sean let me know he lost his tooth----and swallowed it! Thankfully, he didn't cause too much of a commotion! Of course, one of Sean's aunts told him the Tooth Fairy pays double when you swallow the tooth! This is the same aunt that told him the Tooth Fairy pays double on Sunday! Most od Sean's teeth have fallen out on Double Pay Sundays! Thanks, Aunt P.!
After dinner we danced and laughed and had the best time! My BIL was my dance partner---we had a ball! At one point everyone was ushered out to the verrandah for the most spectacular fireworks show! Incredible! Then more dancing, farewell to the couple, and s'mores at the fire pit.
Sunday morning was the Farewell Brunch at the Raquet Club. The yummy breakfast food was just what we all needed! After brunch we ALL went to Hilton Head and everyone got rooms at our hotel and we hung out before going to the groom's parents' house for (more food!) lunch. We took the kids to the beach for a bit. Then we went back to the hotel and all quickly freshened up before going to dinner together. (Are you noticing a trend?)
Monday morning we all met for breakfast before we all headed our separate ways.
What a weekend! Now you understand why it has taken me a week and a half to catch my breath!
I will post pics soon!
